i saw this galaxy s2 commercial in the movie theater the other day and i almost spit out my diet coke when the “dude you’re a barista” part ran.
Ha. It was around this time last year (maybe January?) that Fred tricked me into buying a Nexus S. Kidding! Not tricked, as I did like the phone for awhile, until bits and pieces started to fall off. The analogy for me right now is like the difference between Honda and Hyundai. Twenty years ago the gulf between the two was very wide but narrowing each year. Now? Now, Hyundai has Jeff Bridges doing their ads and they sell a knockoff Lexus instead of a knockoff Honda.
I switched to a 4S about a month ago and given there’s a post comparing the latest versions of the two, here’s the take from my perch:
Anything involving Google, the Nexus S does better. Particularly push notifications of email. Loved my status bar up top, multiple Gmail accounts, calendar integration. And I had it on T-Mobile which, when I had signal, was faster than AT&T.
Everything else, the iPhone still does better. Wanna take a screenshot? Maybe they have that option in the latest version of the Android OS but they sure didn’t in mine which is simply ridiculous for a smartphone in 2011. Irrespective of smaller apps that people may or may not use, the Android versions of Twitter and Tumblr were always sort of busted in some way, displaying photos the wrong way and so on. It would only vibrate to notify me of email… sometimes. When it felt like it. Basic, basic stuff. Oh, and the Nexus S deleted all my texts just cause it wanted to. Twice.
If Android phones WORKED as reliably as Apple, there might be more of an argument to consider them as an alternative. Until the get they reliability aspect down—and that was what took Hyundai 20 years and crazy extended warranties to do and what will be much harder with so many different manufacturers—it’s not gonna fly for me.
